SENIOR VOLUNTEERS TO BE HONORED
Mayor Jeremy Harris will recognize 87 seniors, nominated for the 2003 Mayor’s Outstanding Senior Volunteer awards, on April 14 at the Hilton Hawaii Village Resort Coral Ballroom .
The theme for the event is “Honoring Na Kupuna: Hands and Hearts of Our Community.” It was chosen to honor Senior Volunteers who contribute to their communities by donating their time and skills gathered from a lifetime of work and personal experiences. Many of these seniors have generously given up their own leisure time to help others cope with life’s difficulties, share their valuable knowledge with others, and assist organizations in delivering health care, recreational or social services.
“We are truly blessed to have these seniors, who serve unselfishly to help those in need,” said the Mayor. “Our community deeply appreciates the many things they give from their hearts.”
The program features entertainers from the Polynesian Cultural Center, The Royal Hawaiian Band and the Makua Alii Singers.
The 37th Mayor’s Senior Recognition Program is produced by the Honolulu Committee on Aging and the Elderly Affairs Division, City and County of Honolulu. The Hawaii Medical Service Association and Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel are principal sponsors of this program.
The public is invited to this admission-free event, which begins at 9:00 a.m. Refreshments will be served prior to the program. Door prizes will be distributed.
