SMITH-BERETANIA PARKING GARAGE TO OPEN
Mayor Jeremy Harris announced today that the new Smith-Beretania municipal parking garage will open beginning at 6 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, providing 114 much-needed parking stalls for Downtown Honolulu. This will bring the total number of parking stalls in Downtown/Chinatown to 2,134.
“This project has created more efficient use of the property by providing convenient parking for the public while beautifying the neighborhood with an attractive park,” the Mayor said.
The project replaced an existing asphalt parking lot with a landscaped public park that sits above a new underground parking structure.
Parking hours will be 6 a.m. through 12 midnight, seven days a week and the rate will be 50 cents per hour. Diamond Parking will manage the parking facility. Vehicles will enter from Beretania Street and exit the structure from Pauahi Street.
The facility includes 101 regular and 13 disabled parking stalls, air conditioning, ventilation, elevator, parking control and security systems.
Principals on the project were T. Iida Contracting, Ltd. and Kajoka Yamachi Architects.
