FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SUNSET ON THE BEACH FEATURES BALLET HAWAII
The sun will again set at the water’s edge of Queen’s Surf Beach this weekend, as hundreds of fun-loving folks gather for food, entertainment and free movies this Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22, at Sunset on the Beach.
The fun begins at 4 p.m. with live entertainment. Join Oldies 107.9 as they present Joe Green Band from 4 to 5:45 p.m. on Saturday. On Sunday, KCCN FM100 presents SugAHdaddy, playing two sets, from 5 to 6:45 p.m.
At 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant star in the delightful comedy-romance, “Two Weeks Notice.” In an impulsive moment, Bullock’s character, a top-flight attorney, quits her high-paying job only to later discover that she is in love with her former boss, the head of the law corporation. The fun begins when she suspects that her hand-picked, ambitious replacement also has her eyes on the top legal beagle.
On Sunday, Sunset on the Beach presents Ballet Hawaii before the evening’s film, “Center Stage,” a story about a team of young dancers competing for a chance to be part of a prestigious dance troupe. It’s a journey into the physical and psychologically challenging world of elite dancers who train like Olympic athletes in an extremely selective and sometimes cruel marketplace. The cast includes Olympic gold medallist Ilia Kulik, Peter Gallagher and Hawaii-born Amanda Schull, who will make an appearance at Sunset on the Beach on Sunday night.
Whether you choose to dine on the beach or on the Kapahulu Pier beneath the romantic skyline, Sunset on the Beach offers an impressive mix of complete entrees, appetizers or snacks. This weekend, participating restaurants include Royal Hawaiian Hot Dog, Oliveneo’s, Compadres Bar & Grill, Leo’s Greek Taverna, Time 2 Grind, Bale French Sandwich & Restaurant, Popcorn Express and Pizza Hut.
Thirty-two crafters from the Hawaii Handcrafters and Artists Alliance, featuring “Made in Hawaii” products, complete the attractions of this weekend’s event.
Sunset on the Beach is sponsored by the City and County of Honolulu, Waikiki Improvement Association, the Hawaii Restaurant Association, News 8, K5 The Home Team, Oldies 107.9 and KCCN FM-100. For more information, call the Waikiki Improvement Association at 923-1094 or the City’s Information Office, 523-CITY.
