SUNSET ON THE BEACH JOINS THE HONOLULU FESTIVAL
Sunset on the Beach returns to Queen’s Surf Beach this weekend, Saturday, March 15 and Sunday, March 16, sharing Waikiki with the colorful Honolulu Festival, and providing visitors and residents alike with unsurpassed entertainment, relaxation and blockbuster movies on a giant 30-foot screen on the beach at no charge. A wide variety of food – from delectable appetizers to satisfying entrees – and a unique Craft Fair complete the Sunset on the Beach experience.
Restaurant booths open at 4:00 p.m., with radio stations hosting exciting live entertainment and contests until 7 p.m. On Saturday, 1043 XME hosts Jeff Rasmussen from 4 to 4:45 p.m., and Epic Session from 5 to 7 p.m. On Sunday, Oldies 107.9 present the Men of W.A.R. from 4 to 4:45 p.m., followed by Chant from 5 to 7 p.m.
On Saturday, Sunset features the blockbuster movie, “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider”, based on a popular video game about a British aristocrat-turned-action-figure, starring Angelina Jolie with real-life dad, Jon Voight. Tomb Raider is an action-adventure family film with lots of exciting high-tech activity.
Sunday, the blockbuster film, “Signs,” features Mel Gibson, Joaquin Phoenix and Cherry Jones determined to unravel the mystery surrounding a 500-foot crop circle on their Pennsylvania farm. Directed by M. Night Shyamalon of “The Sixth Sense” fame, the film examines the age-old dynamics between spiritual faith and belief in intra-terrestrial phenomenon. All moves begin at 7:30 p.m.
Whether you choose to picnic on the beach or dine at tables with bright blue umbrellas on the Kapahulu pier, choose from a wide menu selection – from chefs’ signature presentations to pizzas, hot dogs and snacks – at very special prices. Restaurants Royal Hawaiian Hot Dog, The Nutty Hawaiian, Oliveneo’s, Trellises Restaurant, Time-2-Grind, Leo’s Greek Taverna, Popcorn Express, Bale French Sandwich & Restaurant, Del’s Lemonade and Pizza Hut are featured this weekend.
