CELEBRATE EASTER WEEKEND AT SUNSET ON THE BEACH
Take advantage of the attractive hotel packages in Waikiki, make it a three-day holiday and celebrate Easter weekend, April 19 and 20, at Sunset on the Beach. If it’s fun, relaxation and entertainment you’re looking for, you won’t be disappointed with the City’s popular food-entertainment-movie fest on the most beautiful beach in Waikiki.
The fun begins at 4 p.m. when radio stations 1043 XME and KRATER 96 host live entertainment, engaging the audience in fun, frivolity and contests. On Saturday, it’s “Chaos” from 5 – 6:45 p.m. Sunday, KRATER 96 presents “Hot Rain” from 5 to 6:45 p.m.
At 7:30 p.m., the giant 30-foot screen presents feature-length blockbuster movies. On Saturday, Sunset on the Beach presents “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.” With Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grant and Emma Watson, the students at the Hogwart School of Witchcraft and Wizardry practice more black magic and incantations as mysterious events take place in the Chamber of Secrets.
On Sunday, kick back and enjoy Reese Witherspoon in the hilarious romantic comedy, “Legally Blonde.” Delightful Witherspoon nixes makeup and wardrobe for legal textbooks and depositions, as she makes the successful transformation from a beauty contest bombshell to a studious Ivy League law student – in her quest to win back the heart of her former high school beau.
Whether you choose to picnic on the beach or dine at tables with bright blue umbrellas on the Kapahulu Pier, choose from a wide menu selection – from chef’s signature presentations to pizzas, hot dogs and snacks – at very reasonable prices. This week, restaurants participating include Royal Hawaiian Hot Dog, Leo’s Greek Taverna, Compadres Bar & Grill, Seafood Village, Time-2-Grind, Bale French Sandwich & Restaurant, Popcorn Express, Mr. Pizza and Del’s Lemonade.
Thirty-two artisans from the Hawaii Handcrafters and Artists Alliance join Sunset on the Beach this weekend from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. The uniquely Hawaiian Craft Fair features only “made in Hawaii” products.
On May 3 and 4, Sunset on the Beach travels to the West Oahu Community with Sunset on the Plains in Kapolei, Oahu’s Second City. Sunset on the Plains begins at 10 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, and will feature popular local restaurants, an open market of artists, crafters, farmers and businesses, inflatables, and live entertainment. On Sunday at 6 pm, the Honolulu Symphony, with Stuart Chafetz as Guest Conductor, will provide a special concert for the community.
Of course, Sunset on the Plains will feature blockbuster movies starting at 7:30 p.m. “Blue Crush” will be shown on Saturday and “Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers” will be presented on Sunday.
Sunset on the Beach is sponsored by the City and County of Honolulu, Waikiki Improvement Association, the Hawaii Restaurant Association, News 8, K5 The Home Team, Hawaiian 105 KINE and KCCN FM-100.
