MARCH 19, 2003

Sunset on the Beach returns to Queen's Surf Beach this weekend, Saturday, March 22 and Sunday, March 23, offering a relaxing spring break for residents and visitors alike.  One of the most innovative programs in Hawaii, Sunset offers an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful Hawaiian sunset, live entertainment and great movies at no charge.

More than 32 crafters from the Hawaii Handcrafters and Artists Alliance will open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., featuring Hawaii made products.  Restaurant booths begin serving at 4:00 p.m., offering a wide selection of food and snacks at very reasonable prices.  This weekend, Sunset welcomes New Century Restaurant, Royal Hawaiian Hot Dog, Leo's Greek Taverna, Compadres Bar & Grill, Arnold's Beach Bar & Grill, Time-2-Grind, Popcorn Express, Bale French Sandwich & Restaurant, Popcorn Express and Mr. Pizza.

To kick off spring break, Cox Broadcasting will begin live entertaiment at 3:30 p.m.  on Saturday. 1043 XME will host the entertainment stage, bringing on Sani, Thick Tubes and Kapena.

Sunday, Hawaiian 105 KINE will also provide special entertainment, opening with the Stanford University Glee Club at 4 p.m., followed by FreeSound.

As part of the Paniolo Festival, Sunset will be premiering Paniolo O Hawaii by Edgy Lee on Saturday before the featured film.  The Paniolos are also expected to visit and provide some Kanikapila entertainment.

Blockbuster movies for the whole family begin at 7:30 p.m. on both nights.  On Saturday, it's "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" starring Jeff Goldblum, Julianna Moore and Richard Attenborough.  Scientists discover another site where dinosaurs have been resurrected through DNA cloning.  Spectacular special effects enhance the actions of the lively mix of characters:  ecology-minded activists, a world-class game hunter and dedicated scientists.

On Sunday, Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson joins Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz in London to partner once again in "The Mummy Returns."  The special effects in this movie exceed the dazzling achievements of its prequel, "The Mummy."

This week, Sunset on the Beach is sponsored by the City & County of Honolulu, Hawaii Restaurant Association, Waikiki Improvement Association, News 8, K5 The Home Team, 1043 XME and Hawaiian 105 KINE.
