ALEXANDER AND BALDWIN SPONSORS SUNSET ON THE BEACH
Spend the Memorial Day weekend relaxing on Queen's Surf Beach this Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25, when Sunset on the Beach returns to Waikiki. Enjoy the beautiful Hawaiian sunset, live entertainment, unique craft fair, great food, free first-run movies and the opportunity to meet people and renew acquaintances at one of the coolest gathering places in Honolulu.
More than 32 crafters from the Hawaii Handcrafters and Artists Alliance will offer unique "Made in Hawaii" products from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Food booths begin serving at 4 p.m., offering a wide selection of snacks and entrees at very reasonable prices. This weekend, Sunset welcomes Royal Hawaiian Hot Dog, Leo's Greek Taverna, Compadres Bar & Grill, Waikiki Pizzeria & Grill, Oliveneo's, Time-2-Grind, New Century Restaurant, Bale French Sandwich & Restaurant, Popcorn Express and Pizza Hut.
Live music begins at 4 p.m. with entertainment provided by KRATER 96 on Saturday and OLDIES 107.9 on Sunday. Deejays from both stations will be on hand to engage the audience in fun and contests and introduce outstanding local entertainers. Shaka Jambe will perform on Saturday and Johnny Valentine and Revolution on Sunday.
Blockbuster movies for the entire family begin at 7:30 p.m. on both nights. On Saturday, it's "Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers." J.R.R. Tolkien's internationally popular trilogy stars Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen and Liv Tyler.
On Sunday, Sunset on the Beach features "Daredevil," with Ben Affleck playing the role of visually challenged Matt Murdock, lawyer by day and crimefighter with superhuman skills at night. Also co-stars Jennifer Garner as Electra, Daredevil's alluring love interest who secretly harbors ambitions of eliminating him.
This week, Sunset on the Beach is sponsored by the City & County of Honolulu, Hawaii Restaurant Association, Waikiki Improvement Association, News 8, K5 The Home Team, Krater 96 and Oldies 107.9. For more information, contact 523-CITY or the Waikiki Improvement Association at 923-1094.
Next weekend, Sunset on the Beach travels to the North Shore for a three-day event at the Haleiwa Ali'i Beach Park.
