CITY SPONSORS 18th ANNUAL CHRISTMAS WREATH CONTEST

Ransack your closets and retrieve the ribbons and trimmings you’ve collected over the years.  It’s time once again for the annual Christmas Wreath Contest, sponsored by the City and County of Honolulu.  Now in its 18th year, the popular craft competition is held during the Christmas season and offers a top prize of $200.

There are three contest divisions:  Adult Wreath Contest, open to any individual or group; Children & Youth Wreath Contest, open to any individual or group ages 17 or younger; and Theme Wreath Contest, open to any individual or group that best depicts the theme, “Christmas Enchantment.”

A ribbon and monetary award will be given to the winners in each division.  First place prize is $150, second place is $100 and third place is awarded $75.  An overall “Best in the Show” will receive the Mayor’s Holly Award of $200 while six “Judge’s Choice Awards” will be presented a monetary prize of $25.  Each entrant, individual or group, may win only one award.

Entry deadline for wreath submission is December 3, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.   All wreaths will be accepted at Lane Gallery, on the ground floor of the Diamond Head end of Honolulu Hale, 530 South King Street.  No late entries will be accepted.

All entries must include a short narrative detailing the materials used in the creation of the wreath.   Judging will be based on workmanship, creativity and use of materials.  Wreaths in the theme category will be judged on the entrant’s incorporation of the theme into the wreath.

All entries will be exhibited in Lane Gallery in Honolulu Hale from December 6, 2003 to January 4, 2004.  The City and County of Honolulu reserves the right to refuse any entry.  All decision of the judges are final.

For more information contact E. Tory Laitila, Mayor’s Office of Culture and Arts, 523-4105.
