BRUNCH ON THE BEACH TO BE HELD THIS WEEKEND This Sunday, Brunch on the Beach celebrates the new movie SHARK TALE which opens on October 1. The popular outdoor café on Kalakaua Avenue will feature free entertainment and fabulous food. The 5 winners of the “Show and Tale Us What About the Ocean Inspires You!” student art contest will receive their awards. And bring the children because we’ll have more prizes from the movie than you can shake a fin at! Delicious Food
Golden Chopstick Award Fin-tastic Dishes
This month’s Golden Chopstick dishes will feature local seafood and exotic SHARK TALE desserts. Four-time Golden Chopstick Award winner Executive Chef Chip Hawkins, Renaissance Ilikai Waikiki, will serve Grilled Mahi Mahi served on Steamed Rice and Stir Fry Vegetables with a Kona Tomato, Macadamia and Citris Confit ($6). Shanghai Bistro, also a new Brunch restaurant, will serve a Freshly Broiled White Shrimp Plate ($6). The Hau Tree Lanai will offer Island Smoked Sword Fish with Local Kine Pineapple Salsa and Malaysian Curry Sauce, served with Rice and Shredded Lettuce Greens ($5). Seoul Jung offers Hae Mul Pa Jun, a Korean Seafood Fritter of Squid, Shrimp and Scallions served with a Special Soy Sauce ($5), and the Pacific Beach Hotels returns to Brunch with Chef Andy Nelson’s Mediterranean Special Maple “Lackquered” Cedar Plank Salmon that’s served with Rustic Smashed Potatoes and Island Greens with Yuzu-Clamansi Soy Vinaigrette. Go back to your favorite food station for desserts and submerge yourself in these yummy delights: Jellyfish Jello, Tidalwave Shave Ice, Warm Cinnamon Shark Fins, Shark Bait Brownies and a Fin-tastic Sparkling Ocean Float!
Best Entertainment and Student Awards The entire Royal Hawaiian Band Glee Club kicks off the entertainment at 9:30 a.m. At 10:30 a.m., the keiki of Hâlau Hula Olana, under the direction of Na Kumu Hula Olana Ai and Howard Ai will delight you. At 11:30, Maila Gibson, Hawaii Music Artists’ “Female Vocalist of the Year” will share melodies from her award-winning album “More”. The 5 winners of the Show and Tale Us What About the Ocean Inspires You!” student art contest will receive their prizes at 12:15 p.m. after the Golden Chopstick Awards are presented to the chef who creates the best seafood entrée and SHARK TALE dessert. Over 1,000 entries were received in this contest sponsored by the Department of Education, DreamWorks, producers of SHARK TALE, and the City. The grand prize winner of the student art contest will receive a private screening of the movie for himself/herself and class, Hewlett Packard computer for his/her school, $500 art supplies for his or her classroom, and a weekend stay at the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel for his or her family. Henry Kapono will headline at 12:30 p.m. with a spectacular show. Special Brunch “Holoholo Parking”
Take advantage of these parking rates arranged by the Waikiki Improvement Association for Brunch on the Beach Sunday. When the sign with the pink “P” and lavender lei are posted at these parking garages, these rates will be available: $3.00 all day..............................................................................................
