CITY REPAIRS LEAKING PALOLO WASTEWATER LINE
A hole in an 8-inch sewer line allowed rocks and soil to create a pipe blockage that caused untreated wastewater to leak yesterday from the hole into Pukele Stream, adjacent to 2580 La I Road in Palolo Valley.
The spill was reported at 11:00 a.m. yesterday (Monday, November 22). City crews arrived on site to find wastewater leaking from the pipe into Pukele Stream at the very top of Palolo Valley. An estimated one gallon per minute of wastewater was leaking, but the spill subsided hours later, by 6:47 p.m. The damaged pipe has been repaired.
Warning signs have been posted along affected areas and water quality monitoring has been initiated to test for contamination. The State Department of Health has been notified of this event.
