CITY TO BEGIN ROAD RESURFACING ON KAPIOLANI BOULEVARD

Portions of Kapiolani Boulevard will undergo nighttime emergency road work most of next week, beginning on Monday (January 26) from 7:30 p.m. in the evening through 4:30 a.m. the next day.

The project is a continuation of the City’s emergency road work effort that began this week on Beretania Street and which will target a number of roadways—especially heavily traveled ones—in Honolulu’s urban core.

Beginning Monday night, paving will be done on Kapiolani Boulevard between Kaheka Street and Ward Avenue, and include a small section of Kapiolani fronting the One Kapiolani Building (near South Street).  The work is expected to take place over five or six nights, between the hours of 7:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

The paving work will include replacing existing pavement in the curb lanes with new pavement.  Three lanes will be closed to traffic in the construction area and motorists are advised to expect detours.  Off-duty police officers and traffic sign boards will assist motorists around the construction zones.

Work on permanent pavement striping and manhole adjustments may extend into the following week during the normal daytime work hours.

For more information, contact the Construction Management Branch, Civil Division, of the Department of Design and Construction, at 547-7722.
