CITY TO BEGIN ROAD RESURFACING ON KAPIOLANI BOULEVARD
Motorists are advised that paving work will begin on Kapiolani Boulevard between Kalakaua Avenue and Date Street on Monday (June 14). The work is being done by private contractor and is expected to be completed within six weeks, weather permitting.
The paving will be done Monday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. to minimize the impact on traffic. Crews will start from Kalakaua Avenue and progress towards Date Street on the diamond head-bound lanes, then from Date Street back to Kalakaua Avenue on ewa-bound lanes. The work will include cold planing and resurfacing of the roads and will require closure of half of the roadway and entire intersections in the construction area. Off-duty police officers will assist motorists around the construction area and signs will be posted informing motorists of detours.
The Kapiolani Boulevard project is a continuation of the City's emergency roadwork effort that has already resurfaced major portions of King Street, Beretania Street, Young Street, Piikoi Street, Kaheka Street, Monsarrat Avenue, Puowaina Drive, Tantalus Drive and Kalakaua Avenue. The City will continue with its emergency repair and contract work on heavily traveled roadways in Honolulu's urban core and the major roads in residential areas.
Permanent pavement striping, manhole adjustments and loop detector work will follow.
