LEI NEEDED FOR MEMORIAL DAY Fifty thousand lei are needed for placing on the graves of veterans, in memory of their service to our country, at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl and at all State Veteran’s cemeteries for Memorial Day. The lei are needed on Friday, May 28, and can be dropped off at designated community parks and fire stations on Oahu and the Parks Permit Office in Honolulu. The Mayor’s Memorial Day Service will be held on Monday, May 31, 2004 from 8:30 a.m., at the National Cemetery of the Pacific. Each year, the graves are decorated with lei by the Boy Scouts for Memorial Day. The lei have been provided through the generosity of individuals, schools, and organizations in our community. The City is asking the community to again honor our veterans by donating lei. Instructions for sewing lei: All lei must be made of fresh flowers or ti leaves and must measure 20-24 inches before tying. All lei must be tied. Floral sprays such as ti leaf and anthurium bouquets are also welcome. Lei can be dropped off at the following Oahu locations on Friday, May 28, 2004.
