FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 22, 2004 OVERFLOW STOPPED AT KALIHI MANHOLEGrease blocking a sewer line caused wastewater to overflow from a manhole behind Kuhio Park Terrace and enter Kalihi Stream last night (Sunday, November 21). City crews arrived at 9:15 p.m. at the site, which is located on State of Hawaii property adjacent to 1506 Amelia Street, and stopped the spill by 11:30 p.m. Approximately 2,000 gallons of untreated wastewater entered Kalihi Stream, which discharges into Keehi Lagoon. The spill site was cleaned and disinfected. Warning signs are being posted along affected areas and affected waters have been tested for contamination.
