FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ROUND TOP DRIVE TO RE-OPEN Round Top Drive has been determined to be safe to traffic and will be re-opened at 6 p.m. tonight (Friday, January 9). The road had been closed for the past week due to a landslide, which occurred during heavy rains last Friday and blocked a hairpin curve in the 2500 block of the roadway. City and State officials will continue to visually inspect the road for any unsafe conditions. Asphalt berms were in place today to divert water seepage and protect the hillside from further erosion. Concrete barriers were installed earlier to restrain the hillside from slipping. These were in addition to stanchions with reflectors that were set up to warn the public that a nearby lookout was closed and that no vehicles would be permitted to park. -30- |
