Sunset in the Park at Pearl Harbor
July 24 & 25, 2004

 

            Pearl Harbor is the location for the City’s next Rediscover Oahu event on Saturday and Sunday, July 24 and 25 from 12 noon to 10 pm at Richardson Field, Pearl Harbor, located across of Aloha Stadium.  Open and free to the public, Sunset in the Park at Pearl Harbor welcomes back the Rim of the Pacific 2004 (RIMPAC) participants to Oahu and showcases the restaurants, businesses, entertainers, handcrafters and artists of the Pearl Harbor Region.

LIVE ENTERTAINMENT

             Sunset in the Park at Pearl Harbor will feature live entertainment on both days.  On Saturday, entertainment includes the RIMPAC Battle of the Bands winner, Polynesian Cultural Center, ‘Ike Pono, Son Caribe, Jr. Kekuewa, Kidz Talent Show and the Pearl City Community Youth Variety Show.  On Sunday, entertainment continues with the Pacific Fleet Band, Nal Leo Nahenahe O Na Kupuna, Nix Dance Studio and much more.

 KIDS’ GAMES AND DISPLAYS

            Sunset in the Park at Pearl Harbor will include games, activities, and vehicle displays for kids of all ages.  A Children’s Activity Center will include carnival games with prizes, clowns doing face painting, misting tent, paintball challenge, pony rides and a petting zoo.  Displays will include military vehicles, classic cars, Keiki ID, and police, fire and EMS vehicles.

 SHOPPING, HANDCRAFTS AND ART

            Sunset in the Park at Pearl Harbor will have a Market Place showcasing the businesses and services of the Pearl Harbor Region.  The Market Place will also include Hawaii made handcrafts and arts and booths featuring souvenirs from the RIMPAC naval ships based at Pearl Harbor.

GREAT FOOD AT AFFORDABLE PRICES

            Sixteen great restaurants from the Pearl Harbor area will feature everything from ribs, garlic shrimp, and pizza to Italian, Japanese, Chinese and Hawaiian dishes and popular local plate lunches.  Featured restaurants include Aiea Taro Patch, Alberto Ristorante Italiano, Baldwin’s Sweet Shop, Da Adagi Guy, Dave’s Hawaiian Ice Cream, Dixie, Grill, Hawaiian Style Chili Company, Ono Kettle Korn, Pearl City Chinese Restaurant, Pizza Hut, Sam Snead’s, Simply Ono Foods, Slush Puppies, and more.

 BLOCKBUSTER MOVIES

            Sunset in the Park at Pearl Harbor will show two blockbuster movies after sunset.  On Saturday, the movie is the top grossing, Lord of the Rings:  Return of the King (PG-13).  On Sunday, the movie stars Russell Crowe in Master & Commander: The Far Side of the World (PG-13).

               Plenty of free parking is available across the street at Aloha Stadium.  Entrance is from Salt Lake Boulevard.  The Bus’ City Express Route A and Routes 42, 20, 52 and 62 provide bus service to Richardson Field at Pearl Harbor

             The City & County of Honolulu; Hawaii Navy Region Morale, Welfare and Recreation; Hawaii Tourism Authority; Pearl City Foundation; The Honolulu Advertiser; and Oceanic Time Warner Cable are among the sponsors of the weekend events.
