FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 20, 2004 WASTEWATER SPILL AT KAILUA PUMP STATIONCity wastewater personnel are working to contain a sewage spill caused by a ruptured pressurized line at the Kukanono Wastewater Pump Station in Kailua. The spill began at about 12 noon today (Thursday, May 20) on the grounds of the pump station at 705 Manu Oo Street and some of the wastewater has entered Kawainui Marsh. The precise quantity, scope and cause of the spill is still being determined. Although the spill is an area not generally accessible to the public, warning signs will be posted and the affected area will be sampled for analysis.
The State Department of Health has been notified of the incident. -30- |
