Release No. M-97

CITY EXTENDS HOURS FOR SATELLITE CITY HALLS IN MALLS

Mayor Mufi Hannemann today announced that satellite city halls at Ala Moana Center, Pearlridge Center and Windward Mall, will stay open until 8:30 p.m. Wednesday evenings beginning November 16, 2005. Anyone in line at 8:30 p.m. will be served.

The pilot project is scheduled to run through June 30, 2006, and could be extended permanently if demand warrants.

“Just in time for your holiday shopping, we’re extending the hours at these three satellite city halls as an added convenience for the public,” said Hannemann. “I recognized long ago that many working men and women cannot get to satellite city halls to conduct vehicle registration and other City transactions during normal business hours. I promised during last year’s campaign that we would try to accommodate them, if I were elected mayor. This is an example of what can be accomplished through the collaboration of our City personnel, the HGEA and the private sector.”

The satellite city halls at all three malls currently are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. The extended hours are expected to cost an additional $53,000 for the seven remaining months of the current fiscal year, primarily for staffing costs.
