FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 6, 2005 Release No. DDC-7
CITY HOLDS PUBLIC MEETING ON KAPIOLANI NIGHT WORK The City Department of Design and Construction will hold a public information meeting 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2005, to discuss its application for a state noise code variance to allow night work on its joint water and sewer project on Kapiolani Boulevard. The meeting will be held at the McKinley High School Cafeteria, 1039 South King St. A record of the proceedings will be sent to the state Department of Health, which enforces the state noise code. The $22 million joint project involves construction of a new water main and rehabilitate the existing sewer main under Work is scheduled to begin in January 2006 and finish in October 2007. The work is expected to disrupt traffic on Kapiolani, and in order to minimize the duration of that disruption, the City is asking for a noise variance that will allow for work to be done at night as well as during the daytime. -30- Contact: Eldon Franklin, DDC Wastewater Division Chief, 527-5040 |
