FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CITY ANNOUNCES NEW DRIVER LICENSES, ON-LINE APPOINTMENTS Mayor Mufi Hannemann and officials of the Department of Customer Services and Department of Information Technology today (March 22, 2005) announced two major developments in the City’s driver licensing operations: · A new driver’s license format that aims to deter duplication or forgery and also makes it easier to distinguish at a glance whether the licensee is 21 years old or not. · A new system that allows license applicants to schedule a road test on-line. The license changes put Hawaii at the forefront of technology in licenses. The new design, by Marquis ID System, was approved by a committee consisting of licensing administrators from all four counties. Honolulu began issuing the news licenses on March 11. The other innovation allows driver license applicants to book road tests on the city’s website, so they can spend more time on line than in line. That system began operations yesterday, and most of the slots for the rest of the year have already been taken. -30- Contact: Salvatore Lanzilotti, director of Customer Services, 527-6605HOW TO SCHEDULE A DRIVER’S LICENSE ROAD TEST ONLINE
