FLOOD WATCH POSTPONES KAPOLEI ‘SUNSET’ FOR A WEEK

The threat of heavy showers and thunderstorms this weekend has prompted the City to postpone the Sunset on the Plains celebration at Kapolei that was scheduled this weekend to the following weekend, October 8 and 9.

“In light of the flash flood watch issued by the National Weather Service, we are postponing the Kapolei Sunset event to the following weekend as a precaution,” said Mayor Mufi Hannemann.

Instead of this Saturday and Sunday, Sunset on the Plains will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on October 8 and 9 at Kapolei Regional Park. The event will feature food booths, a marketplace, games, entertainment and movies on the giant screen: “The Pacifier” at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 8 and “The Longest Yard” at 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 9. In addition, a fireworks display will be staged at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, October 8.

The postponement will not affect Sunset on the Beach in Waikiki on October 8 and 9. That event, celebrating the World Triathlon Cup, will be held as scheduled.
