FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                             February 25, 2005

The Domestic Violence Clearinghouse has selected Salvatore Lanzilotti, Ed.D., the mayor’s designated Director of Customer Services, for its Outstanding Individual Contribution in the field of Domestic Violence award.

The Clearinghouse said that Lanzilotti, former Director of the City Department of Emergency Services, was chosen because of his “inspiring and continued support of our efforts at bringing safety to victims of domestic violence.”

“Domestic violence has long been an issue close to my heart because it has such a tragic and far-raching impact on families and our community,”  Lanzilotti said.  “For this reason, I am deeply honored and humbled by this recognition.”

Lanzilotti has served on the steering committee for the Men’s March Against Violence since the inception of that organization in 1994.  He also developed and implemented special pre-hospital procedures for Honolulu’s emergency medical services personnel to better assess, treat and protect domestic violence victims.  Honolulu was one of the first cities in the country to implement such protocols.

The Domestic Violence Clearinghouse will present Lanzilotti with its award at its annual fundraiser tomorrow (February 26) at the Oahu Country Club.  Also being honored are HMSA (Health Cares About Domestic Violence award) and the HGEA (Outstanding Corporate Contribution in the field of Domestic Violence award).
