KAPOLEI -- Mayor Mufi Hannemann announced he is appointing longtime city official Salvatore Lanzilotti as director of the Department of Customer Services. The mayorís original appointee, Kevin Yoshino, is withdrawing his name because heís about to become a first-time father and would not be able to meet the demands of the job.


The mayor also announced the appointment of Ann Niino to be deputy director of the Department of Emergency Services. Niino has worked for the city for 25 years, as an information specialist in the Department of Customer Services, and for the past five years, as the cityís parks permitting officer.


                       Lanzilotti has been with the city for 17 years, the past eight at director of the Emergency Services Department, formerly the city Department of Health. He coordinated the development of the Metropolitan Medical Response System, which would provide an integrated medical response to an attack on Honolulu with weapons of mass destruction.


                      Lanzilotti has also served the city as an executive assistant to the managing director and director of what is now known as the Department of Community Services. He earned a doctorate in education from Temple University. He also holds a bachelorís degree from St. Josephís University in Philadelphia and a masterís from the University of Southern California.
