MID-PACIFIC GRADUATES GIVE THEIR LEI FOR MEMORIAL DAY
Each year, 58,000 lei are needed for placement on veteransí graves for the Honoluluís Memorial Day Services. The graduating Class of 2005 at Mid-Pacific Institute hit upon a solution; they will give their graduation lei for the Memorial Day Services in tribute to our veterans. High school graduates receive thousands of lei because of the local tradition of giving lei at graduation ceremonies. The city is encouraging other Oahu schools with commencement ceremonies on the days before Memorial Day to donate their lei. Mid-Pacific Instituteís commencement is scheduled for Saturday, May 28.
Honoluluís Department of Parks and Recreation, the coordinating agency for the Mayorís Memorial Day Service, will accept lei on Saturday, May 28, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the office of the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific and on Sunday, May 29, from 8 a.m. to noon, outside of the cemeteryís main entrance.
Schools are encouraged to make arrangements to gather, store and deliver their lei. For information or to make other donation arrangements please call Gary Cabato at 692-5568 or Chris Sabolsky at 692-5694 (Monday - Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).
