Registration and reservations are now being taken for the Summer 2005 Junior Lifeguard Program conducted by the City’s Ocean Safety Division, with support from the Hawaiian Lifeguard Association. Sign up on on-line at


The five-day course will familiarize participants with basic ocean and beach safety skills. The program includes an introduction to ocean hazard identification and prevention, ocean and surf rescue techniques, emergency first aid, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation training. The program emphasizes general fitness, ocean swimming, paddle boarding, and lifesaving skills.


The program is open by males and females between the ages of 13 and 17 years old, as of June 1, 2005. Applicants must have strong swimming skills and a desire to learn about ocean safety.  THIS IS NOT A LEARN TO SWIM PROGRAM.




Session 1:  June 6-10

Session 2:  June 13-17

Session 3:  June 20-24

Session 4:  June 27-July 1

No program the week of July 4th

Session 5:  July 11-15

Session 6:  July 18-22

Session 7:  July 25-29
