FEDERAL GRANT APPLICANTS FACE

AUGUST 31 DEADLINE

A key deadline is approaching for agencies and organizations seeking a share of the $10 million available in federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and $4 million in HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) funds from the City and County of Honolulu for the fiscal year that begins July 1, 2007.

Thursday, August 31, 2006, 4 p.m. is the deadline for agencies to submit their completed funding applications to the Purchasing Division of the City Department of Budget and Fiscal Services. Only nonprofit organizations that submitted their prequalification materials to the City by July 14, 2006, as well as government agencies of the City and County of Honolulu may submit funding applications.

All agencies should ensure that they deliver their funding applications to the Purchasing Division and ensure that their applications are date- and time-stamped at the Purchasing Division by Thursday, 4:00 p.m., August 31, 2006. Late applications will not be accepted.

“In the past, some agencies have missed opportunities for CDBG or HOME funds because they failed to meet the deadlines for various reasons,” said Mary Pat Waterhouse, director of the Department of Budget and Fiscal Services. “In accordance with the terms of the request for proposals and in fairness  to all applicants, these deadlines are not flexible, no matter what the reason for missing them might be.”

The federal Department of Housing and Urban Development awards Community Development Block Grant funds to local governments for community development activities directed toward revitalizing neighborhoods, economic development, and providing improved community facilities and services.  The HOME Investment Partnerships Program provides funding that allows the creation of affordable housing for low-income households.
