The City will close the landmark Rainbow Bridge in Haleiwa, beginning October 16, for repairs expected to take seven to 10 days.

The aging bridge, which spans Anahulu Stream, will have its deck reconstructed.  This work will require complete closure to vehicles, 24 hours a day, until completion. Construction will take place during the day, Monday through Sunday, between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.  The extended weekday and weekend hours are necessary to speed completion.

The walkway on one side of the bridge will remain open at all times for pedestrians.

However, motorists must use alternate routes and should expect delays.  Anyone planning to visit shops and businesses in Haleiwa should use Kamehameha Highway, via Weed Circle.  A detour will be provided to allow motorists to return to Kamehameha Highway through Haleiwa and Waialua Beach Road.

Operators of large vehicles are warned that U-turns on the Laniakea side of the bridge will be restricted because of limited space.

Nearby businesses, emergency response agencies and TheBus and have been informed of the closure.
