APPLICATIONS FOR LEI QUEEN BEING ACCEPTED

 

The Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking applicants for Lei Queen and Princesses for the 79th Annual Lei Day Celebration.  The deadline to apply is Wednesday, February 15, 2006.  A queen and two princesses will be selected and crowned at the City's annual Lei Day Celebration May 1, 2006, at Kapiolani Park.

          Contestants must have knowledge in art of lei making, hula and be able to convey the spirit of aloha with warmth and dignity.  This year’s age group is Nâ Wahine ‘Ôpio - 18 - 30 years of age.  The lei queen selection event will be held at McCoy Pavilion on March 18.

This year’s Lei Day Celebration theme is Nâ Lei Mâlamalama o Nâ Kai ‘Ewalu - the Illuminating Lei of the Eight Seas.  Information and application forms are available at all City Parks or may be downloaded at the www.honoluluparks.com website
