MAYOR COMMENTS ON POSTPONEMENT
OF HONOLULU CENTENNIAL FAMILY FESTIVAL
In light of today’s postponement of all of this weekend’s Honolulu Centennial Family Festival events to April 7, 8 and 9 and the cancellation of tomorrow’s HMSA goWalk, Mayor Mufi Hannemann issued the following statement:
“It is unfortunate that weather forced postponement of the festival, but it was the right thing to do in light of the forecasts for continuing rain this weekend and the clean-up many Honolulu residents face after today’s deluge.
“In addition, the heavy rains left the Magic Island grounds saturated.
“We’re looking forward to seeing everybody next weekend as we celebrate the centennial of the City and County of Honolulu next weekend by bringing the magic back to Magic Island.
“We thank the Honolulu Centennial Commission, E.K. Fernandez Shows and the festival’s sponsors, HMSA, First Insurance and GEICO. And all of us look forward to better weather ahead.”
