MAYOR LEAVES ON BRIEF WEST COAST TRIP  

            Mayor Mufi Hannemann leaves this afternoon on a two-day trip to California to address the National Asian American and Pacific Health Summit and attend a U.S. Conference of Mayors leadership meeting.

            The Asian and Pacific Islander American Health Forum is sponsoring the mayor’s appearance at the health summit in San Jose tomorrow. The summit is intended to bring national attention to specific health issues and barriers to care that Native Hawaiians and Pacific islanders face in the United States and in U.S. territories.

            On Friday, the mayor will attend the fall leadership meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Santa Barbara. Hannemann was elected to the advisory board of the Conference of Mayors earlier this year. He is also the chairman of the Conference of Mayors Standing Committee on Tourism, Arts, Parks, Entertainment and Sports and will be chairing his inaugural meeting at the conference’s 75^th Winter Meeting in January 2007.

            The mayor is scheduled to return to Honolulu Friday evening. In his absence, Managing Director Wayne Hashiro will serve as acting mayor.
