FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                         November 15, 2006

Release No. M-116-06

Mayor Mufi Hannemann has selected Ann H. Chung to be the director of the City’s Office of Economic Development.

Chung is currently vice president for government and community affairs with the Hawaii Science & Technology Council, a technology industry trade and advocacy group.

Her appointment takes effect on December 1. She replaces Jeanne Schultz, who is leaving the City post for family reasons.

Chung has earned a reputation as the foremost advocate and lobbyist for Hawaii’s science and technology industry in her current position and for the prior six years as executive director of the Hawaii Technology Trade Association. The association merged with the Hawaii Life Sciences Council to form the Hawaii Science and Technology Council in January 2006.

“Ann is widely respected within tech circles as well as the halls of government, and we are pleased and fortunate to have her joining our team,” said Mayor Hannemann.

Chung previously worked in California, as director of marketing for Thinque Systems Corp. and an accounts supervisor with Bozell Worldwide and Ogilvy & Mather.

She is a Hawaii native and a summa cum laude graduate of the University of California at Berkeley in Legal Studies and Psychology.

Chung’s appointment does not require City Council confirmation.
