FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 30, 2006 Release M-76-06 MAYOR NAMES NISHIMURA CONSTRUCTION DEPUTY
Nishimura is presently chief of the Division of Collection System Maintenance of the Department of Environmental Services. He has extensive experience in all phases of sewer construction and maintenance. Mayor Hannemann said, “Craig’s appointment is reflective of the priority we’re placing on improvements to our wastewater system. Inasmuch as more than half of our capital spending this coming fiscal year will be on sewers, it behooves us to put a seasoned engineer like Craig in the thick of our construction program. His know-how will be vital as he helps to oversee the design and construction aspects of our wastewater program. We’re delighted that he’s accepted this appointment.” As division chief, a position he’s held since January 2002, Nishimura oversees a 191-employee operation that operates and maintains the City’s sewage collection system. He has been with the wastewater operation since 1991, serving as a civil engineer overseeing wastewater quality, manager of capital improvement projects, and assistant chief of the collection division. Nishimura’s other professional experience has included stints with the Board of Water Supply, U.S. Army Support Command Hawaii, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
