MAYOR'S OFFICE OF CULTURE AND THE ARTS AWARDS $90,000 GRANT TO

HAWAII THEATRE CENTER

Mayor Mufi Hannemann today announced the City has awarded a $90,000 grant to the Hawaii Theatre Center for its 2006-2007 Hana Hou! Hawaiian Music Series and special performances.

“The Hawaii Theatre Center has exemplified strong dedication to providing wonderful cultural, artistic and civic programming for the enjoyment and enrichment of our entire community,” said Mayor Hannemann. “We are proud to be a part of their continued efforts.”

The mayor is scheduled to present the check to Hawaii Theatre Center officials at 7:15 p.m. Friday (December 22) at the theatre.

The grant provides support for the production of at least six performances as part of the Hana Hou! Hawaiian Music Series that showcases local talent and features the best in Hawaiian music and dance.

In addition to the Hana Hou! series, the Hawaii Theatre Center will present special performances that expose local audiences to nationally and internationally acclaimed talent such as MOMIX and Jim Nabors and friends. These performances are taking place until May 2007.

The grant was awarded by the Mayor’s Office of Culture and the Arts (MOCA). MOCA funding helps the Hawaii Theatre Center in its efforts to preserve and promote the arts for the citizens of Honolulu.
