FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 7, 2006 Release M-79-06 OCEAN SAFETY DIVISION GETS WATERCRAFT ON LOAN Mayor Mufi Hannemann, Congressman Neil Abercrombie and officials of the Honolulu Emergency Services Department will participate in a ceremony Saturday, July 8, 2006, to accept American Honda Motor Company’s loan of a personal watercraft to the City for a year. The ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. near the ewa end of Abercrombie spearheaded the effort to secure this loan of a Honda Aquatrax through the Personal Watercraft Industry Association, whose goal is to demonstrate the vital role personal watercraft can have in public safety and rescue operations.
“Each year, lifeguards of our Ocean Safety Division perform more than 1,500 lifesaving rescues and treat 12,000 medical cases of injury and illness. The addition of this personal watercraft will help ensure that this level of safety is maintained for both residents and visitors alike,” said Mayor Hannemann. “The City is grateful to Congressman Abercrombie, the Personal Watercraft Industry Association, the American Honda Motor Company and Pflueger Honda, its distributor here, for this generous loan.” The Honda Aquatrax will be utilized by the Ocean Safety Division of the Honolulu Emergency Services Department to help guard the over 198 miles of coastline on
