PAUL YONAMINE NAMED TO TOP POST WITH HITACHI

            Mayor Mufi Hannemann today announced that Paul Yonamine, who served as his volunteer senior advisor for the first year of his administration, has resigned to become the representative director, president, and chief executive officer of the newly named Hitachi Consulting Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the Japanese multinational corporation.

            Yonamine’s appointment will be effective April 3, when EXSURGE, which is the current name of Hitachi’s consulting business, will be renamed Hitachi Consulting.  All of the corporation’s consulting enterprises in Japan and Asia will be consolidated under this umbrella.

            Hannemann said, “This represents a big loss for us.  Paul has not only been a trusted friend and confidante, but the leader of our ongoing Mayor’s Review, which is a top-to-bottom examination of City government.

            “His ideas and insights have been invaluable, and contributed immeasurably to our progress during the past year.  You’ll recall that he and another unpaid volunteer, John Zabriskie, put together a team of business, labor, government, and community leaders early in the year to examine the state of City finances.  Their eye-opening analysis revealed the scope of the City’s debt problems and many of the other problems we’re confronting.

            “Of course, it was only a matter of time before another organization would recognize his talents.  Hitachi will no doubt profit by Paul’s leadership.  I’m very gratified that he’s promised to continue to lend his counsel to the Mayor’s Review and other City matters, and wish him nothing but the very best in his new endeavors.”
