            STATEMENT OF HONOLULU MAYOR

MUFI HANNEMANN ON THE NINTH CIRCUIT COURT DECISION REGARDING THE KAMEHAMEHA SCHOOLS ADMISSION CASE

I am glad the Ninth Circuit Court has agreed to take a second look at its decision in the Kamehameha Schools admissions case.  The City of Honolulu has a significant interest in the issue as it serves and advances the aspirations of all its citizens, which include Native Hawaiians and their children.  The people of Honolulu have demonstrated their commitment to preserve and honor our host culture, its customs, language and history, and I hope now the Ninth Circuit Court will do likewise.
