The public is invited to join Mayor Mufi Hannemann in kicking off the first Windward City Lights festival from 6 to 7 p.m. this evening at the Kaneohe Fire Station, at The Fire Department band Ahi Wela will provide entertainment beginning at 6 p.m. The mayor will switch on the lights on the Christmas tree fronting the fire station and on the decorations put up by community volunteers at the police station about 6:30 p.m. Cookies and punch will be served. “Recognizing that not everyone can get downtown for the traditional Honolulu City Lights, we started a similar celebration of the holidays at Kapolei Hale last year,” said Hannemann. “This year we’re doing a soft opening for Windward City Lights.
