Release No. M-96-07

Mayor Mufi Hannemann and the Filipino Chamber of Commerce Foundation today announced "Taste of Kalihi Block Party Kalihi Style," which will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2007, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Colburn Street between McNeil and Waikamilo Road.

The event is one of the results of the Mayor's Kalihi Economic Summit held in April this year to revitalize "Kalihi Pride" and stimulate economic opportunities.  In true public-private partnerships, the City and Kalihi's community and business organizations are committed to working together to make Kalihi an even better place to live, work and raise a family.

'The Taste of Kalihi will bring together Kalihi's restaurants, businesses and performers to showcase Kalihi's rich cultural diversity," Mayor Hannemann said.  "Having been born and raised in Kalihi, I am excited to see community members come together and create an event that will let our island neighbors know just how special Kalihi has been, is and will continue to be."

The event is co-sponsored by Kamehameha Schools and New Hope Christian Fellowship Oahu.  The day-long event will feature food, business, and community booths, keiki rides and games, a display of 25 classic cars, and continuous live entertainment, including performances by Kamehameha Schools students, Brother Noland, Ten Feet, and the largest Electric Slide dance.

The event will also honor famous Farrington alumni for their achievements, contributions and recognition that Kalihi can be a place where dreams begin and indeed come true.
