FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 31, 2007 CITY RESPONDS TO BROKEN WASTEWATER PIPE NEAR MAILI POINTCrews from the City Environmental Services Department are working to repair a rupture in a sewer main along the makai side of Farrington Highway between Kaukama Road and Hakimo Road.
The break was reported to City officials around 11 a.m. The rupture appears to be in a 20-inch force main (a pipe that moves wastewater under pressure). It did not appear that any wastewater entered the ocean from the break.
As a precaution, however, warning signs are being posted along the shore and water samples are being taken. The public is advised to heed the signs. The state Health Department has been notified.
Repairs are now underway and will continue through the night. No road closures are expected.
