KAWANANAKOA SCHOOL EVACUATION DRILL

WILL AFFECT NUUANU TRAFFIC ON WEDNESDAY

Kawananakoa Middle School, 49 Funchal St., between Nuuanu Avenue and Pali Highway, will hold an off-campus evacuation drill from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2007, that is expected to affect traffic in the area.

School officials are working with the City Department of Transportation Services and the Honolulu Police Department in preparing and conducting the drill.

The Kawananakoa students, faculty, and staff will exit and walk mauka to the evacuation site, located on Nuuanu Avenue near Wyllie Street.

Portions of Nuuanu Avenue and adjoining side streets including Bates Street, Judd Street, Pauoa Road and Robinson Lane will be temporarily blocked.  To minimize inconvenience, motorists are asked to avoid the area and take alternate routes that morning.

All schools are required to conduct such drills, but most of them have evacuation sites closer to campus.
