MAYOR TO DEDICATE HONOLULU CENTENNIAL TIME CAPSULE AND NEW FASI CIVIC CENTER SIGNS IN THURSDAY CEREMONY

            Mayor Mufi Hannemann will dedicate the Honolulu Centennial time capsule and new welcome signs for the Frank F. Fasi Civic Center grounds at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 26.

            The time capsule has been installed in the welcome sign between the Frank F. Fasi Municipal Building and parking structure. Three other signs, with maps, will be located on the Civic Center grounds.

            Sealed within the time capsule are items from the first 100 years of Honolulu’s municipality, as well as a record of the City’s year-long Honolulu centennial celebration, which was held from July 2005 to July 2006.

            “The time capsule and the items within it speak of the hard work by members of the Honolulu 100 organization that made Honolulu’s centennial celebration a huge success,” said Hannemann. “When the time capsule is opened by a future generation, it is my hope they will share the same pride and enthusiasm for Honolulu as we have today.”

The Honolulu 100 was established to celebrate the accomplishments of the City and County of Honolulu and its citizens over the preceding century through festival events and community activities. The time capsule is one of the group’s initiatives and the project was supported by the Mayor’s Office of Culture and the Arts.

The time capsule will remain sealed until the City’s sesquicentennial celebration in 2055.
