PUPUKEA BEACH PARK COMFORT STATION

GETTING A MAKEOVER

            The City’s Department of Parks and Recreation is nearing completion of a makeover of the Pupukea Beach Park comfort station (at Sharks Cove).

            Work on the comfort station includes repairing and replacing plumbing fixtures, painting, application of a sealant to make the facility easier to clean, and minor repairs.  Skylights will be installed by the end of July to brighten the interior.

            Mayor Mufi Hannemann had announced in April, following a two-day maintenance closure of Ala Moana Park, that the City would be expanding this program to the North Shore within 60 days.

            Said Hannemann, “I’m happy we were able to make-over one of our older facilities at one of our most popular beach parks on the North Shore.

            “In addition, just as we did last summer at Maili Beach Park, my cabinet and I are coming to the North Shore for a service project to clean and perform minor repairs at Waimea Beach Park on Saturday, August 4.  Soldiers from the U.S. Army at Schofield Barracks will be joining us that day to clean-up other parks along the coast.  We invite community organizations to volunteer.”

            The Pupukea makeover is part of the Department of Parks and Recreation’s just-in-time maintenance program, where maintenance crews perform intensive work on a designated park or facility.  Similar makeovers have been done at Ala Moana Beach Park, Pokai Bay Beach Park, Maili Beach Park, and Waimanalo Beach Park.  The next scheduled comfort station makeover will be at Queen’s Surf in Waikiki, from July 9-13.
