ROAD WORK WEEKLY REPORT

 

Scheduled road work for the week beginning September 16, 2007, for the Department of Design construction, Civil Division (Construction Management Branch), and Wastewater Division (Construction Management Branch) is listed below.  Road work is normally done between the hours of 8:30 AM and 3:30 PM unless otherwise noted.

 

AIEA

Kaonohi Street / Moanalua Road Intersection Improvements:  Work includes additional left turn lanes from Kaonohi Street to Moanalua Road, both directions; adding dedicated right turn lanes on Moanalua Road to Kaonohi Street, both directions; retrofitting countdown pedestrian signal heads; adding emergency vehicle preemption (EVP) detectors; installing new mast arms with standards and traffic signal heads for the traffic signal system; constructing a raised concrete median with chain link fence on Kaonohi Street Makai; pavement markings.  Contract work completed.  Extra work remains to be done.

            (Estimated completion date September 2007)

 

Newtown Neighborhood Kaahele Street Improvements, Vicinity of Komo Mai Drive to Moanalua Road.  Work includes adding left turn pockets, pavement markings, and signs.  Change order work has been completed.  Additional extra work may be added.

HAWAII KAI

Reconstruction of Concrete Sidewalks, Kawaihae Street Area, Hawaii Kai  Work includes removal and reconstruction of damaged concrete sidewalk, curb and gutter areas; trimming of trees and cutting, removal of tree roots where the roots have damaged the areas; installing root barriers where required, and adjustment of utility boxes to new sidewalk grades, and other incidental related work.

            (Estimated completion date, February 2008)

 

HONOLULU

Curb ramps at Alexander Street/S. Beretania Street, Isenberg Street/S. Beretania Street, Kaheka Street/Kanunu Stree, Kaheka Street/Makaloa Street, Kalauokalani Way/Makaloa Street, Punahou Street/S. King Street, S. Beretania Street/Keeaumoku Street/Piikoi Street, Kinau Street/Victoria Street, S. Beretania Street/Pensacola Street/Victoria Street, S. Beretania Street/Victoria Street, S. Beretania Street/Ward Avenue, Coyne Street/University Avenue, Dole Street/East-West Road, Dole Street/University Avenue, Kahuna Lane/South King Street, University Avenue/Varsity Place, and Pawaina Street/Paumaka Place:  Construct new curb ramps, sidewalks and AC transition.  Install pavement striping, markings and markers, upgrade traffic signal system.

Rehabilitation of Beretania Street from N. King St. to Alapai St.  Replace traffic signal system at Aala Street.  Reconstruct curb ramps, curb and gutter and sidewalks at Pali Highway/Bishop Street, Bethel Street, Nuuanu Avenue.

Curb Ramps at Date Street & University Avenue.  Construct new curb ramps, sidewalks and AC transition.  Install pavement striping, markings and markers.  Upgrade the traffic signal systems.

Resurfacing of a Portion of Dillingham Boulevard, Waiakamilo Road to Middle Street.  Adjusting utilities to grade; installation of pavement markings and vehicle loop detectors.

Fort St. Mall & Hotel Street Sewer Replacement/Rehabilitation:  Sewer line replacement and CIPP work along Hotel Street between Bethel Street and Bishop Street.

Curb Ramps at Various Locations, FY 2004(3) Kapiolani Boulevard & Paani Street, Kapiolani Boulevard & Wiliwili Street, Kapiolani Boulevard & Pumehana Street, Kaaha Street & University Avenue, Kalakaua Avenue & Young Street, Kalakaua Avenue & South King Street, Kalakaua Avenue & Philip Street, Kalakaua Avenue & South Beretania Street, Pensacola Street & Nehoa Street, Pensacola Street & Karratti Lane, Pensacola Street & Davenport Street, Pensacola Street & Hassinger Street, Pensacola Street & Kinau Street, Pensacola Street & South Beretania Street, Pensacola Street & Young Street, Pensacola Street & Alohi Way, Pensacola Street & Elm Street, Pensacola Street & Rycroft Street, Pensacola Street & Hoolai Street, Pensacola Street & Kaimaile Street:  Construct new curb ramps, sidewalks and AC transition.  Install pavement striping, markings and markers.  Upgrade the traffic signal systems.

Rehabilitation of Keeaumoku Street between Kapiolani Boulevard to Kinau Street; Rycroft Street from Kaheka Street to Sheridan; Sheridan Street between Kapiolani Boulevard to South King Street; South Street from Ala Moana Boulevard to South King Street; University Avenue between Coyne Street to Hihiwai Street.  Reconstruction of concrete curbs and gutters, and new bus pads.  Reconstruction and resurfacing of asphalt pavements.  Adjusting manhole to finish grade, installation of vehicle loop detectors, and permanent pavement markings.

            (Estimated completion date, March 2008)

 

Round Top Drive Emergency Roadway Repairs, Site 3, Phase II:  Install micro-pile for crib wall tie-back system and rigid pavement; install crib wall reinforcement and shotcrete wall finish; construct rigid pavement, concrete crib and guardrails.  Test piles scheduled for August 29th, load test September 5th, production piles September 6th.

            (Estimated completion date, November 2007)

 

Rehabilitation of South King Street between McCully Street and Old Waialae Road, East/West Hind Drive, Luinakoa Street, Kirkwood Place, Kupaua Place.  Work complete with the exception of punch list deficiencies.

            (Estimated completion date, September 2007)

 

Sand Island Basin Miscellaneous Sewer Rehabilitation:  Continue replacement of sewer manhole frame and covers and manhole rehabilitation in various locations.  Rehabilitation of the Ward Avenue sewer tunnel, Sand Island Access Road sewerline, Ala Moana Park sewerline, Moanalua sewerline and Nuuanu sewerline are forthcoming.  Ward Avenue (between Kinau Street and South Beretania Street) The two makai bound lanes will be closed.  One mauka bound lane will be used for contraflow, therefore, only one lane in each direction will be open on Sunday, September 9, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Similar nightly closure Monday (September 10) thru Friday night (September 14) from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m..

KAHALA

Curb Ramps at Keanu Street & Hunakai Street (both makai and mauka intersections).  Construct new curb ramps, sidewalks and AC transition.  Install pavement striping, markings and markers.

KAILUA

 

Rehabilitation of Kainehe Street (Kihapai Street to Kailua Road) and Hamakua Drive (Kailua Road to Keolu Drive):  Paving, traffic signal upgrades, adjustment utility manholes frames and covers to grade, and vehicle detector loops complete.  Installation of pavement markings, traffic sign and bridge deck joints require intermittent lane closures.

            (Estimated completion date, September 2007)

 

KAIMUKI

Curb Ramps at Pahoa Avenue & 13th Avenue, Kaau Street, Kekona Place & Palolo Avenue, 7th Avenue & Kaau Street, 7th Avenue & Keanu Street, 7th Avenue & Waialae Avenue, 9th Avenue & Waialae Avenue, 10th Avenue & Waialae Avenue.  Construct new curb ramps, sidewalks and AC transition.  Install pavement striping, markings and markers.  Relocate street and traffic signs.  Upgrade traffic signal system.

            (Estimated completion date, January 2008)

 

Curb Ramps at Various Locations, FY 2003(1) Pahoa Avenue & 13th Avenue, Kaau Street, Kekona Place & Palolo Avenue, 7th Avenue & Kaau Street, 7th Avenue & Keanu Street, 7th Avenue & Waialae Avenue, 9th Avenue & Waialae Avenue, 10th Avenue & Waialae Avenue:  Construct new curb ramps, sidewalks and AC transition.  Install pavement striping, markings and markers.  Relocate street and traffic signs.  Upgrade traffic signal system.

KALIHI

Curb Ramps at Various Locations, FY 2005(5) Dillingham Blvd. & Mokauea, Dillingham Blvd. & Puuhale Street, Dillingham Blvd. & Laumaka Street, Dillingham Blvd. & GE Supply:  Construct new curb ramps, sidewalks and AC transition.  Install pavement striping, markings and markers.  Upgrade traffic signal systems.

            (Estimated completion date, September 2007)

 

KANEOHE

Kawa Ditch Improvements:  Naumanu Place & Nakuluai Street, Kaneohe:  Removal existing trapezoidal concrete drain channel lining and reconstruction of new concrete rectangular channel.

            (Estimated completion date, November 2007)

 

Miscellaneous Storm Drainage Improvements at Kaneohe Bay Drive (near Hulakai Place):  This project replaces an existing 6x6 CRM box culvert drain with a new 6x6 precast concrete box culvert crossing Kaneohe Bay Drive near Hulakai Place.  Work includes the restoration of the roadway pavement and existing sidewalk.

            (Estimated completion date, December 2007)

 

NIU VALLEY

Curb Ramps at Halemaumau Street & Mahimahi Street, Halemaumau Street & Halemaumau Place, Halemaumau Street & Ulua Street.  Construct new curb ramps, sidewalks and AC transition.  Install pavement striping, markings and markers.  Relocate street and traffic signs.

            (Estimated completion date, October 2007)

 

PALOLO

Kuahea Street Interim Drainage Repair:  Repair the existing disjointed or damaged 18 reinforced concrete pipes using cured in place lining.

            (Estimated completion date, September 2007)

 

PEARL CITY

Reconstruction of Concrete Sidewalks, Moanalua Road and Kaahumanu Street:  Reconstruct sidewalks, driveways, curbs, gutters and AC pavement.  Adjust utility boxes to new sidewalk grade.  Tree trimming, root pruning, installing root barriers and removal of trees where required.  (Estimated completion date, November 2007)

 

Localized Rehabilitation of Streets, Phase 2, Various Streets  Work includes cold planing; resurfacing of asphalt concrete pavements; reconstruction of failed asphalt concrete pavement areas; adjustment of utility manhole frame and covers; installation of pavement markings; and locating existing manholes, valve boxes, monuments, etc.

            (Estimated completion date, January 2008)

 

SALT LAKE

Salt Lake Boulevard Widening Phase 2A, Bougainville Drive to Maluna Street:  Landscape maintenance.

WAIANAE

Hakimo Road Drainage Improvements, Hakimo Road and Ulehawa Street:  Construct and install new storm drain inlet structures, RC pipe, manholes, outlet structure, riprap and chain link fence.  Cold plan and repave existing A.C. pavement.

            (Estimated completion date, September 2007)

 

WAIKIKI

Rehabilitation of Streets, Unit 53, Ala Wai Boulevard from Kapahulu Avenue to Kanekapolei Street:  Concrete curb, gutters driveways; and roadway reconstruction & resurfacing; adjusting of manholes to grade complete.  Installing new permanent pavement markings and vehicle loop sensors requires intermittent lane closures.

            (Estimated completion date, September 2007)

 

WAIPAHU

Waikele Road Improvements:  Work includes widening of Waikele Road and addition of curb and sidewalk fronting Waipahu Intermediate School, from Farrington Highway to Waipahu Flood Control Channel; adjustment of manholes, and boxes on the roadway being widened.

            (Estimated completion date, September 2007)
