Release No. M-49-07

SCHOOL STREET TRAFFIC SIGNALS

WILL BE ACTIVATED ON TUESDAY

The new pedestrian traffic signals on North School Street in Lanakila fronting St. Theresa’s School will be constantly flashing beginning tomorrow (Saturday, May 12, 2007) to alert motorists of the presence of the lights.

The signals will begin normal operations about 9 a.m. Tuesday. Because they’re at a mid-block crosswalk, pedestrians who wish to cross must press the button to trigger the walk signal.

“This is part of our effort to improve pedestrian safety islandwide,” said Mayor Mufi Hannemann. “We can’t do it alone, of course and we urge motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution on the road at all times.”
