SUMMER FUN REGISTRATION WILL BE HELD ON

MAY 12, 14 AND 15

City accepting student applications for Summer Fun aide jobs

            Registration for the City's 2007 Summer Fun Program will be held Saturday, May 12 from 9 a.m. to noon  and May 14 and 15 from 2 to 5:30 p.m. 

            Honolulu’s Summer Fun Program is the largest in the state, serving about 10,000 school-age children each year. The program runs seven weeks, from June 12 to July 25, at more than 60 sites islandwide. Summer Fun sessions are held weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Children enjoy a wide variety of activities including arts and crafts, sports and games, excursions and special events.

            Participants pay a $25 registration fee (waived for families receiving state aid with letter of eligibility) and up to $75 in activity fees for excursions, movies and similar events. Next month’s registration will be held at the 60-plus Summer Fun sites.

            The City is also seeking college students to work as Summer Fun aides, with starting pay of $8.00 per hour.  The City hires about 550 student aides each year to help with the Summer Fun program.  On-line applications can be made for student aide II and III positions at www4.honolulu.gov/cityhallonline/.

                Student aides’ duties include supervising children who have just completed any grade between kindergarten and sixth grade; planning and implementing lessons; teaching skills such as sports, arts and crafts, music and dance or Hawaiiana, and overseeing junior leaders, who are unpaid volunteers who are at least 13 years old and between seventh and 12^th grade.
