In the wake of last nights island-wide power outage the City’s Department of Emergency Management maintained full operations overnight to coordinate response by police, fire, EMS and others.

“The most important thing to remember is that up until this time no serious injuries or incidents were reported by our first responders,” said Mel Kaku, director for the Department of Emergency Management. “Discussions with Hawaiian Electric Company officials have been positive and we hope to see the island fully energized later today.”

Oahu residents are asked to take the following precautions until island power is fully restored:

·        Keep cell phone and landline calls to a minimum

·        Call 9-1-1 only to report an actual emergency

·        Continue to conserve water until electrical power is fully restored

·        Treat all non-powered signaled intersections as four-way stops until power is restored

·        Once power to an intersection is restored lights may flash yellow and red or all red until returning to normal operations – Flashing red means stop, flashing yellow means proceed with caution

·        Keep vehicle travel to a minimum

·        The BUS and Handi Van service will operate as scheduled but residents should expect some delays
