ENV OFFERING FREE COMPOST

The City and County of Honolulu's Department of Environmental Services is offering free biosolids compost to governmental agencies, individuals and private companies such as landscapers, farmers and nurseries.

All interested parties please contact Richard Naka of ENV's Regulatory Control Branch, Division of Environmental Quality at 768-3263 to place an order.  Each order must be a minimum of four (4) cubic yards and the person or agency placing the order must provide its own method of hauling the material off the site.

ENV has approximately 19,000 cubic yards of biosolids compost stockpiled at the Navy Biosolids Composting Facility at Barbers Point.  In addition, those near the North Shore may opt for biosolids compost generated at the City's Laie Water Reclamation Facility, which produces about 2,500 cubic yards annually.

The composting facilities conduct various state and federal tests then submit their findings to the state Department of Health for approval before making the product available to the public.
