END OF SUMMER ADOPT-A-STREAM/ADOPT-A-BLOCK CLEAN-UPS

      City and County of Honolulu agencies will clean up Makiki and Wailupe streams the next two Saturdays in August.

      The Department of Environmental Services’ Storm Water Quality Branch, with support from the Department of Facility Maintenance, coordinates the Adopt-A-Stream/Adopt-A-Block program.

Makiki Stream:  Meet at Washington Middle School by flagpole

Wailupe Stream:  Meet at Hind Place

      The program works with volunteers to remove trash from City-owned streams, pass out pollution prevention brochures and stencil storm drains with the slogan ‘Dump No Waste’.

      Makiki Stream partners include Washington Middle School, Rotary Club, Exacta Sales, University of Hawaii Department of Urban and Regional Planning, U.S. Department of Justice Weed and Seed Program, Kalakaua Homes, Ala Wai Watershed Association and residents.

      Wailupe Stream partners include Niu Valley Middle School, Kevin Mulkern Landscaping, Malama o Maunalua, Aina Haina McDonalds and residents.

      Volunteers may sign up online (www.cleanwaterhonolulu.com) or call 780-8872 and should wear a hat, sunscreen and dress to get dirty.
