CITY CAREER EXPO AT WORKFORCE 2008 JOB FAIR
“We encourage young people and individuals working in the private sector to consider a rewarding career in public service”, said Mayor Hannemann. “The City offers an excellent benefits package and retirement plan, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 21 paid vacation days, 21 paid sick days and 14 paid holidays a year along with other valuable benefits, including job security.”
As a first time event, the City Career Expo will feature displays showcasing current and upcoming projects by all City Departments. It promises to be an excellent opportunity to get information about career opportunities with the City, and to talk story with staff members about job descriptions, departmental goals, and current vacancies.
Departments are sponsoring games, giveaways, DVD presentations and demonstrating equipment used by their departments. Customer Services will provide free eye exams to the public; the Transportation Services Department will be demonstrating a traffic light display and the Department of Parks and Recreation will allow attendees a chance to test their skills at their Wii display.
Demonstrations by the Honolulu Fire Department, the Honolulu Police Department and the Department of Parks and Recreation will follow throughout the day. Various entry-level positions such as Professional Trainee, Construction Inspector Trainee, and Accountant I will be featured at the Expo. Applicants with a college degree from an accredited institution may apply, and in some cases, specific course work and/or relevant experience may be required. General admission to the event is $3.00; students, military with ID, seniors 55+ and ex-Aloha Airline employees with proof of ID (pay stub acceptable) will be admitted for $1.00.
