Mayor Mufi Hannemann announced today that the City collected more than 700 toys and $450 in cash donations for the annual Toys for Tots drive at Honolulu Hale.

Mayor Mufi Hannemann said, “We’re delighted and grateful for the generous support from the community and to all who volunteered their time for Toys for Tots.  This year’s drive has been the most successful to date at Honolulu Hale.”

The Toys for Tots drive took place December 6-17 and was part of the 24th annual Honolulu City Lights celebration.

An entire cargo van was filled with toy donations during the special appearance of Darth Vader and the Star Wars stormtroopers of the 501st Legion Pacific Outpost on December 17.  The event, attended by 3,000 people, was made possible through the efforts of the Pacific Outpost’s Commanding Officer, Tory Laitila, and U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant Christopher Whitley.

Since 1947, the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots Program has fulfilled the wishes of millions of disadvantaged children during the holidays, reinforcing the joy and true meaning of Christmas giving and sharing.  Toys for Tots benefits children and has a positive impact on communities, on businesses large and small, on the Marine Corps, and on the nation.
